Kapampangan Ku - a song that made Fr. Ed Panlilio a governor

Music is the most powerful medium the world has ever known. Nothing else can influence the way we feel, think, behave and live like music can. It is said that music helps change a government and win a crusade, a struggle or a cause. Notable music such as Jose Corazon de Jesus’s Bayan Ko, Woody Guthrie’s This Land Is Your Land, Bob Dylan’s Blowin’ In the Wind, Cat Steven’s Peace Train, John Lennon’s Imagige and even Nena’s 99 Luftbaloons, among others, have drawn forth protests and dissents from listeners.

The emotive stanzaic song “Kampampangan Ku” evokes a vivid impression of Kapampangan’s cultural and political reality. It elicits a feeling of hope and unity and calls up or summons all Kapampangan to effect change. The genius of the song is the most powerful MESSENGER of Among Ed’s crusade, much more potent than the Pineda’s and Lapid’s four Gs – gold, goons, guns and glitters (movie stars). The song has inspired many uninspired poor in the remote barrios, aroused the disenchanted middle class in the city and awaken the pragmatic rich people in gated subdivisions.

This inspirational song must be sung everyday by our children and our children’s children like the Lupang Hinirang in order to bolster and foster the Kapampangan’s sense of outspokenness, religiosity and courage and preserve the spirit of volunteerism we have recently shown to the whole world.

It is my humble suggestion that this song be sung in schools, government offices and even in cinemas and that an enabling ordinance be enacted making “Kapampangan Ku” Pampanga’s provincial anthem.
